The recycling of plastic packaging requires logistics and processes that generate emissions. However, overall, recycling contributes to a significant climate benefit by diverting plastic away from incineration and reducing the need for new fossil raw materials.
By managing and recycling the plastic that arrives at our facility, we contribute directly to reducing packaging producers’ carbon footprint and strengthen the conditions for Sweden to achieve its climate and recycling targets.
Our climate ambitions
Since 2020, we have been producing an annual carbon footprint report in accordance with the GHG Protocol. This provides us with a transparent way of tracking our climate impact across the entire value chain and steering us towards our climate targets.
2025 was a milestone. We have achieved our interim target — halving emissions per tonne of recycled plastic compared with 2020 — with a reduction of 50.4 per cent. The next target is an 80 per cent reduction by 2030.
The key climate initiatives in 2025:
- A higher proportion of fossil-free transport within Sweden
- Streamlining of support materials for production
- Purchase of second-hand machinery and products made from recycled materials
- Repairs and refurbishments instead of buying new

Emissions from our own operations
The largest part of our carbon footprint does not arise from our own operations, but from the activities that take place before and after the plastic passes through our facility. This is also where we have the greatest opportunity to contribute to significant emissions reductions by working towards a recycling system that is both resource- and climate-efficient.
However, reducing emissions from our own operations is an important part of our responsibility. The goal is clear: zero climate-impacting emissions from our own operations by 2030.
For the first time since we began measuring them, Scope 2 emissions fell in 2025. This is partly due to energy-saving measures and a warmer winter, but also because the district heating network in Motala has been completely fossil-free since September 2025.
