That is what Swedish Plastic Recycling would like to offer. We want to help you as a producer with everything you need to know about plastic recycling and make it easier for all companies affected by the law of producers responsibility.

We help you choose recyclable plastic packaging

Your material ends up in Europe’s most efficient sorting plant

Thanks to our sorting plant, we are able to maximise recycling and minimise waste, and best of all, we have the capacity to sort all the household plastic packaging in Sweden. As a producer, you will have the opportunity to visit us and get an assessment of your packaging and its recyclability at our plant.

You will easily be able to follow your progress towards increased climate benefit

So, what really happens to your plastic packaging? Swedish Plastic Recycling always aims for maximum climate benefit and to be completely transparent with 100% traceability. In addition, we aim to openly report how much we collect, what proportion becomes new plastic products, and how much goes to energy recovery. In the future you will be able to view the climate impact of your plastic packaging in more concrete ways. You will also be able to use the information in your company’s environmental and sustainability reports.

..And last, but not least, we help and support you in fulfilling your producer responsibility.

What does the law regarding producers responsibilities entail?

As a producer you are obliged to fulfil the law of producers responsibility. This means that every company that produces, imports or sells plastic packaged goods on the Swedish market also shall:

• ensure that a collection system exists, through which customers and other end consumers can return used packaging.
• ensure that customers receive the information they need about the collection of used packaging.
• ensure that collected packaging is recovered, recycled and put to good use as either new raw material or energy.

In Sweden, this affects over 10,000 companies, and the majority of EU countries have corresponding legislation. Operations are financed mainly through packaging fees that are paid by producers. Operations run without a profit interest so that collection and recycling costs have minimal impact on the price of goods.

The main rule is that the importer of packaged goods and/or the packaging filler need to declare and pay the packaging fee. There are exceptions that apply to so-called service packaging whereby Swedish Plastic Recycling charges the packaging fee to the packaging manufacturer or importer instead of to the individual stores. The most common service packaging is carry bags.
