We have a vision – and you are needed

Plastic is a valuable material with unique properties, that our modern society cannot do without. Plastic packaging that is not recycled is a waste of resources.

  • Plastic is flexible and can be used for a wide variety of purposes. Our modern society would not be able to function without plastic.
  • 95% of Swedish households claim that they sort their waste at home.
  • The law compels everyone to sort waste at home.

Plastics…

  • reduces food waste
  • provides more lightweight packaging and vehicles
  • is used in the construction of energy-efficient houses
  • contributes to renewable energy
  • and much more…
All plastic packaging should be recycled so that it can become new plastic products

Our vision is that all plastic packaging should be recycled so it can become new plastic products. We believe that is possible, but it requires a joint effort.

As consumers, we have the responsibility to sort plastic waste. We also have the power to place demands on and influence producers. For example, we can do this by actively selecting plastic products and packaging that are made from recycled plastic.

Over half of all plastic packaging in this country is incorrectly sorted

In Sweden, we are generally very good at sorting our waste. But despite this, far too much plastic packaging is sorted as combustible. Although we are better than the rest of Europe, we still have a long way to go – over half of all plastic packaging in this country is incorrectly sorted and incinerated instead of being recycled. This is an unnecessary waste of resources.

Our goal

First and foremost, we should of course make sure to minimize the use of plastic packaging. Alternatively, the plastic should be reused. Thirdly, it should be recycled here in our plant so that they can become new plastic products. What cannot be recycled at our plant goes to energy recovery.

Recycling begins at home

All plastic packaging you wish to dispose of should be sorted as plastic, no matter if it is hard or soft plastics. You dispose of plastic at either your nearest recycling bring station or at kerb site collection where you live. Then the plastic packaging is sorted by us at Swedish Plastic Recycling, Europe’s largest and most efficient plant for plastic packaging recycling.

Do not sort

Plastic toys, plastic sleeves/pockets, VHS tapes and black refuse bags are examples of plastics that are not classified as packaging and should therefore be disposed of at a recycling centre. If you are uncertain, please contact your local municipal recycling centre or call us.

How to increase recycling!

Separate different materials and plastic types depending on composition.
Look for recycling instructions on the label of the plastic packaging.
Rinse off food residues with cold water to avoid odour.
All PET bottles should go to bottle deposit collection.
