High-quality recycling
High-quality recycling starts with precise sorting — by plastic type, in separate cycles. This ensures that the recycled material retains its original quality and can replace virgin plastic in packaging or similar applications of the same quality.
The process allows plastic packaging to truly become part of the circular economy, reducing emissions and cutting the need for new, fossil-based plastic.
At Svensk Plaståtervinning, we provide world-leading sorting technology that enables high-quality recycling.

Inadequate sorting leads to downcycling
In conventional material recycling — still the most common method worldwide — plastic packaging is rarely sorted by type.
Instead, it’s recycled into a mixed plastic material with lower quality, function, and value. The result is a material that can only be used for low-grade products that are difficult, or even impossible, to recycle again — such as railroad ties and park benches.
This process is known as downcycling, or degradation of a material’s value, and it locks us into a linear system with ongoing emissions and a constant need for new, fossil-based plastic.
The film shows the differences between high-quality recycling and conventional material recycling.
Through advanced sorting and high-quality recycling, we make top-grade recycled plastic available to the market.
In doing so, we play a key role in driving the growth of a circular market for recycled plastics.
