Towards Circular Plastic Flows

Every year, thousands of tons of household plastic packaging are unnecessarily incinerated. We are committed to creating circular plastic flows, collaborating to reduce emissions and the reliance on new plastic from fossil resources

Advanced sorting for high-quality plastic recycling

We run Site Zero, the world’s largest and most advanced sorting facility for plastic packaging. Here, we can sort and recycle nearly all plastic packaging on the Nordic market.

We sort and create conditions for recycling up to 95 percent of all plastic packaging that comes to our facility, depending on the quality of the incoming material.

In 2024, we recycled 30,651 tons of plastic packaging, which is an increase of 20 percent compared to the previous year.

The climate impact of plastic

Plastic is one of our biggest societal challenges – and the problem is expected to grow. In Sweden, plastic incineration accounts for approximately 7 percent of emissions, according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

We want to be part of the solution. By recycling plastic, we can reduce incineration and, in turn, limit its climate impact.

Our Goal: Keeping Plastic in Circulation

Despite the significant challenges posed by plastic, it is considered essential for the transition to a more sustainable society. It offers many benefits, such as extending the shelf life of food products and enabling lighter, more flexible packaging. However, to fully realize the advantages of plastic, it must remain in circulation within society for a longer period of time.

This is how a circular plastics economy for household plastic packaging can be achieved:

• Plastic packaging is designed for recycling

• Used plastic packaging is collected and sorted at the source

• Waste undergoes advanced sorting and is recycled in separate cycles, with each type of plastic being processed individually.

A market for recycled plastic raw materials is also essential to enable the production of new packaging and products

Work with world-leading plastic recycling

Few workplaces have such a clear vision and social mission as Svensk Plaståtervinning. Every day, we work to reduce the climate impact of plastic packaging and enable the material to be reused repeatedly. Our vision and the context in which we operate shape everything we do and who we are
